1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0 with Reverse of 1803 PCGS graded VF25. Medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are several microscopic pinpricks in the field before the mouth and one more below the L in LIBERTY. None of these tiny marks is visible to the unaided eye. This looks like a half cent that has never been brushed or touched for over 150 years. The surfaces are a bit dull from natural oxidation and there are microscopic traces of loose dirt in the protected areas on both sides. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0, with die lines between the I & B in LIBERTY and a closed curl left of the date. The date and legends are complete and clear and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. Our grade is F15+, close to VF20 (and probably at that level following a proper brushing). A really nice example of this very popular overdate variety, at the lower end of the condition census. A highlight of the Raymond Gatzke half cent collection. Estimated Value $4,000 - UP

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0 with Reverse of 1803 VG10+. Sharpness F15 but there is a shallow planchet flake or void on the neck and a few light hairline scratches from the shoulder into the hair right of the ribbon, but you need a glass to see any of them. Lightly cleaned long ago, now toned slightly glossy olive brown and steel with peeps of lighter brown in some of the protected areas. The surfaces are smooth. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0, with die lines between the I & B in LIBERTY and a closed curl left of the date. The date and legends are complete and strong except for the usual weakness in the center of the reverse. The overdate feature is obvious. An imperfect but still quite nice example of this popular overdate variety. Estimated Value $1,250 - UP

1804 C-2 R6 AG3. Sharpness VG8 but there is carefully engraved graffiti in the obverse fields, possibly American Indian symbols plus the initials "PP." The reverse is unmarked and the surfaces are smooth. Glossy light steel brown and olive; probably lightly cleaned and retoned. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0 early, with a die crack through the tops of ERTY, strongest on the right half. The extension of the crack up from the top of that E has not formed. Softly struck on the left side of the reverse thanks to non-parallel die faces, as always seen on this very rare variety. 1807 C-1 R1 Repunched 7 PCGS graded AU58. Frosty olive brown and chocolate mottled with lighter brown and tan. The surfaces are smooth except for a small patch of fine reddish corrosion on the leaf below the first S in STATES. A couple light scratches hidden in the hair over the shoulder are the only notable contact marks. LDS, Manley state 3.0. The fields are flowlined, a die crack that meanders across the top of the 7, and the repunching on the 7 is dull. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. Estimated Value $700 - UP

1808/7 C-2 R3 Overdate 8 over 7 VF30. Sharpness EF40 or slightly better but there are a few light scratches on the obverse, strongest in the field off the tip of the nose. Otherwise the only marks are a tiny planchet chip in the field near the dentils right of the end of the nose and a couple tiny scrapes under AL in HALF. The surfaces are smooth. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with mint frost showing in protected areas. Nicely struck EDS, Manley state 1.0, with a faint die crack through the top of TY. The date and legends are strong and the overdate feature is obvious. A nice example of this popular overdate variety. Estimated Value $2,500 - UP

1808/7 C-2 R3 Overdate 8 over 7 VF25. Sharpness AU50 but the planchet is covered with uniform fine granularity. No marks or verdigris. Uniform dark gray and steel. In spite of the imperfect surfaces and relatively dark toning, this piece still has decent eye appeal. EDS, Manley state 1.0, without any trace of a die crack at TY. One of the sharpest examples known of this popular overdate variety. Estimated Value $1,750 - UP

1808/7 C-2 R3 Overdate 8 over 7 PCGS graded XF45. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with frost in protected areas. Looks nearly flawless to the unaided eye but a glass reveals fine scratches that cover the portrait. The marks are old and lost in the natural toning so the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0 early, with a fine die crack through the tops of ERTY into the field to the right. The overdate feature is obvious. Our grade is VF35, sharpness net VF25. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded AU50, CAC Approved. Dark steel brown and olive with traces of lighter reddish steel brown toning in protected areas. The surfaces are a bit dull thanks to uniform extremely fine granularity mixed with a thin layer of natural oxidation, but the eye appeal is decent (hence the high grade assigned by PCGS and the CAC approval). No verdigris or notable marks. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The dentils are clear and there is no trace of vertical die lines in the field before the portrait. The reverse is rotated 20 degrees CCW. Our grade is net VF35. Estimated Value $500 - UP

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Attractive frosty light brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices and tiny peeps of very faded mint color in a couple places. A very nice half cent with mint state eye appeal, but there is a trace of friction on the highpoints. The best identifying mark, and it is barely visible, is a tiny planchet chip just above and to the right of the center dot on the reverse. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, with flowlined fields and the reverse rotated 105 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is AU50. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP

1809 C-2 R3 PCGS graded XF40. Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown. Satiny mint frost covers the protected areas and this half cent would be choice if not for a short vertical scratch on the bust under the left edge of the curl. MDS Manley state 3.0, with die cracks on the obverse. The reverse is rotated 135 degrees CCW. Our grade is VF30. The attribution and Furnace Run Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 1809 C-4 R2 Large 0 over Small 0 NGC AU Details Scratches. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter steel brown toning in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth, flowline luster shows in protected areas, and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. However a glass reveals a few dull scratches in the field above the head and another at star 10. These marks blend perfectly into the attractive toning and do not catch your eye. MDS, Manley state 1.0 late. The fields are flowlined but the small 0 inside the normal 0 is obvious and at least half of the dentils remain visible. Our grade is net VF35. The attribution and Missouri Curio Cabinet provenance are noted on the NGC label. Estimated Value $600 - UP

1809/9 C-5 R1 NGC graded AU55. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel. Smooth and attractive with mint state eye appeal but there is a trace of friction on the devices. No marks or other defects, just a bit dirty. Needs a proper bath and brushing to uncover the luster. LDS, Manley state 3.0. The small lump under the second A in AMERICA is gone but the repunching at the bottom of the 9 is still visible (sometimes called a 9 over 6 overdate). Our grade is EF45 (perhaps a bit better after that bath). Estimated Value $500 - UP

1809 C-6 R1 ANACS graded AU55. Glossy reddish brown blending to olive brown in some of the protected areas. The color may be original but I suspect this piece was recolored long ago. Flowline frost shows in protected areas. No roughness or notable marks. Nicely struck MDS, Manley state 4.0, with a tiny rim cud over the back of the head. The reverse is rotated 145 degrees CCW. Our grade is AU50, sharpness net EF40 for the odd color. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. Estimated Value $200 - UP
